A Gallery of Incredible Celebrity Tintype Shots from Sundance

19 - Rachel McAdams and Willem Dafoe

Esquire decided to have a little bit of fun at Sundance this year, and hired a photographer to shoot portraits of celebrities in tintype. You know, the sort of photos you see of coal miners and presidents from like, 150 years ago?

The results are pretty damn cool, and really make each of theses celebrities look like they’re from the past and/or a recent season of American Horror Story. The effect works better on some than others. Anna Kendrick is still modern day cute, while Flea looks like he’s ten thousand years old.

And yeah, it’s more than a little eerie this is likely the last portrait ever taken of Phillip Seymour Hoffman. He doesn’t look well.

Paul I love this post man! Thanks for finding these and sharing them with us – never would’ve known about them otherwise. Some really great stuff and yeah the one with PSH is haunting.

  • Ben

The Elijah Wood one is neat.

  • Nick Ramsay

Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s is particularly haunting in light of recent events. Ominous.

  • ferryman

Wood, Macy and Hathaway are perfectly out of the past.
