The Final Countdown: Gay Spider-Man, Baby Names and Xbox One for Business

Go here to see why Andrew Garfield wants a gay Spider-man.

“Recently…he had a philosophical discussion with producer Matt Tolmach about Mary Jane or “MJ” to fans. “I was kind of joking, but kind of not joking about MJ,” he tells EW. “And I was like, ‘What if MJ is a dude?’ Why can’t we discover that Peter is exploring his sexuality? It’s hardly even groundbreaking!…So why can’t he be gay? Why can’t he be into boys?”

He can’t be gay. A lot of people wouldn’t care and would see it regardless. A lot of people would care, and not see it. So what’s their incentive? It’s Spider-Man, not high art.

I know I’ll get called homophobic, racist, whatever… but this “why CAN’T he be into black guys?” thing just makes you wonder why they’re bothering to do a Spider-Man movie? I had no problem with them saying they wanted to cast the kid from Chronicle as Johnny Storm, until they were like “why does he have to be Sue’s brother? He can be adopted, or they can not even be related…” when people started trying to fan-cast a black Sue Storm (I still say Zoe Saldana would be perfect).

If you have to fundamentally change a character in order to shoehorn in some minority points or whatever, you’re going about the whole thing wrong.
